ABOUT LARRY WILKERSON:
Lawrence B. Wilkerson (born June 15, 1945) is a retired United States Army Colonel and former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell. Since the end of his military career, Wilkerson has criticized many aspects of the Iraq War, including his own preparation of Powell’s presentation to the UN, as well as other aspects of American policy in the Middle East.
From 2005-22, Lawrence Wilkerson was the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. During that time (2006-11) he also taught national security affairs in the Honors Program at the George Washington University in the nation’s capital. Before these professorships he was a member of the Policy Planning staff in the U.S. Department of State and Associate Director of that staff (2001-02), then chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell (2002-05). Prior to these last positions, Wilkerson was General Powell’s special assistant when he was chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989-93) and his private consultant from 1997-00. He served 31 years in the US Army, is a graduate with highest distinction of both the junior and the senior courses at the U.S. Naval War College at Newport, RI, was a member of that school’s faculty (1987-89), and served his final military assignment as Deputy Director and Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Virginia (1993-97). Today he is a Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and co-founder with Major General Dennis Laich of the All-Volunteer Force Forum.
